Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesSo that's what a mockingbird looks like. Some spring and summer mornings I'll spend an hour or two working in the gardens at the church where I work. During those quiet mornings, I'm often serenaded by the almost constant singing of the mockingbird (with all of its varied tunes!). Now how would a city boy who doesn't know what a mockingbird looks like know that it's a warbling mockingbird doing the serenading? Well…I wouldn't, if it weren't for a woman in the church who often joins me in the gardening work. She's a country girl – through and through – who has lived in St. Louis most of her life, but she knows a mockingbird (or mawkinbird, as she calls them) when she hears one. Thanks for the insight with your beautiful, clean, crisp image! 13 Mar 2008 11:04am Elisa from Massachusetts, United Statesfantastic shot! I love to hear them. Last year there were a couple of them around here and I would stay there for a long time just to hear them. 13 Mar 2008 5:40pm standley from brou-sur-chantereine, FranceWonderful capture. Great lighting! I like the expression. 13 Mar 2008 7:37pm Suzanne Labbé from Granby, Québec, CanadaVery nice picture. We do have few of those very rarely in Quebec but I have never seen one here. Bravo. 14 Mar 2008 12:36am Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesSo perfect; mockingbirds are my most favorite songbirds. I love to watch them in action with cats and each other, too. 14 Mar 2008 11:36am Barbara from Florida, United StatesGreat timing to capture this expressive pose. I too did not know what a mockingbird really looked like until I moved to Florida. They are everywhere here and interesting to hear their various songs. I have learned they are protective of their nest area. 15 Mar 2008 3:20am |
